 La despedida...the farewell...

This afternoon we visited the Divine Providence Childrens Orphanage for Girls at Chalchuapa. The ages of the girls in the orphanage ranged from 3-18. The orphanage also had a day care; single parents can drop their children off for the day so that they can go to work. They drop them off at around 6:30 in the morning and pick them up at around 5:30 in the afternoon.

When we arrived there, the children put on four, short, artistic presentations to greet us. After the presentations were over the children took us on a tour of the orphanage. They showed us their lockers ,classrooms, beds, and where they eat. Then we spent some quality time breaking the language barrier. The feeling that we all experienced when we were talking to the children was amazing; to know that they understood us even if we didn’t speak much spanish. We played sports such as basketball and soccer, made pipe cleaner butterflies, blew bubbles, and drew on the pavement.

There are really no words to sum up what we all experienced today. Before we left, a group of girls wished us luck on the rest of our journey, telling us that they will keep us close to their hearts, and that their doors will always be open. They will always be in our hearts.  “Siempre estaran en nuestan corazones.”
