Today’s report written by: Kim Russo, Kim Turner, ....
The day started about 15 minutes earlier than usual. We met an elderly woman, who was 90 years old, and her daughter who joined us for breakfast. They gave a speech in deep gratitude for all the help the CFCA has given them. Shortly thereafter, we departed to the Chapel de Monseñor Romero. We had a lovely mass in the chapel where Romero was killed, which was said by Father Mike, and then took a tour of Romero’s living quarters. After the tour we made our way over to the UCA, (the Catholic University of Central America), where we were given a lecture on the life of Romero and the civil war of El Salvador. We viewed the museum of the UCA, followed by the rose garden in which the bodies of the martyrs were found after their assassination. After the rose garden, we proceeded to the chapel of the UCA and viewed many beautiful religious paintings.
By then we had enough of the museums and were off to Pizza Hut for lunch. There we had a contest of who could eat the most pizza. Stephen Campos came out the winner with 7 slices. After stuffing our faces, we went to the market. We successfully haggled for things such as jewelry, hammocks, ponchos, crosses, and other merchandise. We then packed the car full of bodies and a sea of plastic shopping bags.
Because it is our last night here in El Salvador with these lovely people, we are going to enjoy our last meal together followed by a talent night given by all of us and the CFCA staff. This is sure to be a sight seeing as the boys have been practicing their rendition of Sister Act II, and the adults have been rehearsing oh so sneakily for their performance as well. As for us girls, we are natural performers!!
