11:30AM Trip to Airport and flight home

Tuesday is our day to pack and return.  We seem to have almost as much as we brought with lots of local handcrafts and memories packing our luggage. Before the two hour journey from Santa Ana to San Salvador airport we made one last trip to the community of La Realidad.  We visited La Realidad last year the day after a fire destroyed one of the homes.  A family of 5 had lost everything and were living in a small corner of the burned out home, completely exposed to the night thunderstorms and cold.  Our group last year collected funds for a new home, shared literally the clothes off our backs, and shopped for supplies and groceries.  We returned this year to find the family living in their new and expanded home (wood frame, dirt floor,  and corrugated sheet metal walls). They had planted a garden of flowers where the old home stood and made many improvements to the site.  It was wonderful to see them again and to meet many of the people who we got to know on our last visit.

Our flight home was beautiful thorough the evening sunset and colorful thunderstorms (in the distance thank goodness!) and we arrived home almost at midnight. It was wonderful to be back with our families with so much to share.
